I listened to God and saved a friends life!
I used to be a banquet server in the Twin Cities. My main job was serving food but sometimes I’d work in the kitchen. During my time in the kitchen I would work with a guy who I’ll call “Jerry”. During one of those times I noticed that he was having a hard time breathing. When asked him about it he said he had asthma. I asked him if I could pray for him, he said sure, so put my hand on his shoulder and prayed that God would heal his asthma.
In banquet work the demand for banquets slows in the summer, but picks up again in the fall. On my first day back after the summer slowdown, I went down to the kitchen to find Jerry. Instead, I came across his co-worker who I’ll call “Brenda.” I asked Brenda where Jerry was. She explained to me that Jerry was in the hospital. I said “why, what happened.” She said “he had a major asthma attack.” She went on to say that “the doctors put him in an induced coma and they can’t get him out of it…It’s serious!”
At that moment the Lord said “Hurry! Get down there as soon as you can!” After work, I rushed to the hospital. After arriving, I quickly asked the receptionist where I could find Jerry. She said he was in intensive care. When I arrived I was met by a woman who I assumed was Jerry’s girlfriend. I asked her, “how’s he doing?” She said “he’s still in the coma.” She said you can go in and say hi if you want. He’ll know your there because his eye lids will flutter.” Sure enough, when I went in and said hi they fluttered. Well, I knew the Lord wanted me to pray for Jerry’s healing so I did. Shortly after, a cleaning crew came in and told us that we needed to leave. After saying goodbye to Jerry and his girlfriend, I left.
Eventually I saw Jerry at work walking with a cane. I walked up to him from behind and said “hey Jerry, how ya doing”. He turned and saw me and began to weep. I thought it kind of strange. For a long time after that every time I saw Jerry he would begin weeping. Eventually, I ask Brenda, “why does Jerry weep every time he sees me?” She said, “haven’t you heard the rest of the story?” I said “no…what story?” She said, “after you went to the hospital and prayed for him he came out of his coma.” I said “I’m sure his girlfriend was happy”. She said “the girl you saw wasn’t his girlfriend, she was his sister, and she waiting for the doctors so she could give them permission to pull the plug and end his life!”
All that I can say is that I’m so glad that I was faithful and did what the Lord called me to do.
Eventually, Jerry made a full recovery from his paralysis and eventually I was able lead him in the prayer of salvation…where he gave his life to the Lord. Am
If the Lord can use me in a situation like this…He can use you in the same way.
Be Blessed,
Tim
