God asked us to sell our retirement home.

God asked us to sell our retirement home.

Years ago, the Lord gave my wife and I the oppurtunity to build a very nice house on 20 acres. The property had beautiful views, abundant wildlife, and even  a pond. My wife and I thought that this house might be the place where we’d spend our retirement years.

Then one day, out of the blue, the Lord asked us to sell it! Knowing the Lord’s voice like I do I had no hesitation. But being that this was such a big decision, which would affect the whole family, I asked the Lord to confirm it to my wife…and he did! As my wife was driving home he asked her the same thing. As my wife was pulling into the garage I met her at the door. I started to say “Honey I think the Lord is calling us to…” and she finished the sentence by saying “sell the house!” That was the exact kind of confirmation I was looking for.

Prior to building this house, the Lord had us living in a very nice apartment north of the cities. We really liked this apartment because it opened up to a beautiful park. In addition it was bordered with tall pine trees, so when you walked out onto the patio you felt like you were living in the of the woods.

As we signed the papers to sell our house…it occurred to me that we were going to need a new place to live. I called around to see if there were any apartments available. There were quite a few so I wasn’t concerned. I was hoping that somehow we would be able to move back into our old apartment…the one with the tall pine trees. So I gave “Gail”, our old Apartment Manager a call. I asked her if there was any chance we could move back into our old apartment? She kind of chuckled and said “there’s no way.” She said “the current tenant loves the place and has no intention of moving.” Disappointed, I told her that “I would try back later.” She said “feel free but I think you’d be wasting your time.” I said “thanks”…and hung up.

After our house sold we received our move out date. Now I began to earnestly look for an apartment. And for some reason the previous abundance of choices were no longer there! Finally I found one that met our location needs but didn’t have any of the amenities we were looking for. In addition it was in a location that had a lot of traffic, and very little area for the kids to play. Needless to say, when when I showed my wife, she wasn’t enthused at all.

I tried to find an alternative…but there wasn’t one. I gave Gail another call and again no luck. With nowhere else to turn we reluctantly filled out the rental papers and planned to deliver them the next day. After a restless nights sleep we were getting ready to deliver the papers. As I was standing there I was beginning to feel let down by the Lord, not that He would let us down, but that somehow we had missed where he was calling us to go.

Then, I felt the Lord gently nudge my spirit to give Gail another call. So I said “ok Lord I will.” When Gail answered I told her who I was and asked if there was any chance that our old apartment was available? She said, “you’re not going to believe this, but in the middle of the night the guy who was living there packed up all of his things and left! If you still want the apartment…it’s all yours!” Needless to say my wife and I were ecstatic and in total awe of God!

Over the years the Lord has blessed us in many ways. But this was without a doubt, one of the most nail biting experiences we’ve ever experienced!!!

Be Eternally Blessed,

Tim
